#56 - Najwa Latif

Assalamualaikum,

Dear reader,

If you happened to be a Malaysian, based on the title, I think you might know already who I'm going to talk about. Her name is Najwa Latif, 16 and is a singer -and a student of course. I just knew her from my friend recently. Yeah, I'm pretty slow into knowing the latest things so do forgive me if that's a sin. This picture below is her.

She used to be one of a kind of people whom I wish I could be.
Popular, pretty, wears hijab yet is smart, skilled and talented -I bet she's rich too-

Why popular? Well, or else how does she got a lot of view in YouTube, considering that the rumors about her singing must have spread among her schoolmates.

Pretty? You can judge that yourself. That word is subjective but it's obvious already.

I've done my research before I write all this. She has a smart brain. I can't find her UPSR result but I found her PMR result. It's 7A and 1B.

She is skilled and talented. Just so you know, while I'm saying this, I am opining it that I'm being biased. She knows how to play guitar! All my life, I've always wanted to play guitar taking into account that I've  only been leeway with piano and electone. It's an escapade for me when I play it. I used to be so devoted playing it that I am now a bit wear out of it and would like to try something hmm, cutting-edge shall I say?

Guitar is cool, really! But I'm not allowed by my parents. They didn't allow me basically because I'm a girl. Now wait, don't judge my parents by saying that they're conservative. I know the reasons why crystal clear. I've been exposed to music ever since I was a kid. I was sent to music class at the age of five, I used to go karaoke every now and then, musical concerts, theaters and my parents' have friends that their kid is a deejay -in clubs' too. Evidently, you can see why I do appreciate music. Nevertheless, I used to want to be a professional in the music industry and my parents would always remind me the main reason why they did all those stuff to me. They want me to have a skill. Playing an electone would require me to put a pair of attentive eyes for the pair of hand to play and a pair of ears to hear both feet in motion in order to play a nicely composed song. Combining all, I would have to focus on all. Correct, multitasking is what they intend to teach me. I don't have to be a professional, they only want me to have a skill so that I know how to focus and know what to prioritized. If you don't get what I mean than I don't really know how to explain more. I'm not saying that it's wrong for her to sing and show the world that she could. But really, I think what I intended to say in the first place is out if topic now speculating it that guitar is not really what I wanted to appoint.

So, this girl is already famous around Malaysia and well a lil bit from other part of the world through YouTube. Most of her videos, I see people commenting about how good she sings and how pretty she is. Amazed but several comments which is a moot issue among the society made me realized that they're somewhat right too. Below is the comment:

"suara wanita juga aurat..ianya tidak diharamkan selagi bertujuan perkara2 yg baik spt urusniaga, berhujah, menyampaikan ilmu, memberi pandangandll..tp mengalun2kan suara mcm ni dikira haram...so tidak kiralah pakai tudung or tidak ianya tetap haram selagi dialunkan utk lelaki bukan mahram...matlamat tidak pernah menghalalkan cara..wallahualam.."

Translated into English:
Women's voice is aurat. Though it's not forbidden as long as it is for charitable deeds such as deals, arguments, to withstand knowledge, to contribute a piece of mind etc. But, to make melody counts as haram. It doesn't matter if you're a hijabi or not because it'd remain haram as long as it being "tuned" for guys whom you are allowed to be married. Intention does not in the least give consent of the approach. Wallahualam.

This is a religious statement. In fact, this person is saying the truth. It's so sad seeing that others are denying it. As far I remember, they even ask for proof from the Koran and the Hadis. Gosh, how could they forget so easily? Do they even study their own religion? It does state in a hadis about women's voice is forbidden if the intention is not to help the ummah.

The main thing that I highlighted up there is about the interpreted hadis saying that Islam do not forbid singing entertainment because it's human natural tendency. As a matter of fact, it is a should have things and -of course- it has the limitations in which is not mixed up with obscene languages, disreputable language or things that can lead to wrongdoing.

I am not arguing against Najwa Latif because there are still other female muslim singers but neither do I am backing up for her. I am doing this post just because I felt that the today's Muslim populace is not really aware of what is allow and what not in their own religion. Sometimes, I feel like slapping myself hard too because of my unawareness of my own religion's amendment. But really, those comments about asking to prove them wrong is just so vain. They think that whatever they're doing are right which is also one of the things that Allah S.W.T. hates to have in His servant.

Thank you for reading this post and I apologize if ada yang terkasar bahasa or ada yang terasa either directly or indirectly. It's just a peringatan for Muslims. I'm a human, thus I do it sometimes too.

Good Day :P
